My heart goes out to you. It’s incredibly difficult when something happens to our best pal that is out of our control. You want to do what’s best for your best pal, while navigating feelings of overwhelm, anger, sadness, and confusion. I can’t think of anything that has ever broken my heart more than losing my dogs or watching them fall ill. Yet, I know the joy and love that our pets bring into our lives far outweigh the pain we experience. In moments like these, sometimes the only place left to turn is to our faith. If you’re walking through one of these difficult seasons, I hope these words bring comfort and remind you that both you and your pet are loved.
Psalm 34:18 – "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
God sees your pain, and He is near to you in this moment of hurt. Acknowledge what you're feeling, whether it’s grief, anger, confusion, or fear. It’s okay to express those emotions—whether you say them out loud or write them down. Even in the midst of your sorrow, trust that God loves you deeply and will be there to uphold you with His comfort and peace during this challenging time.
Psalm 36:6 – "Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals."
This verse is a beautiful reminder that God loves all His creations equally. Just as He loves and cares for us, He also cares for our pets. God created both humans and animals, and His love for them is unwavering. I believe we were meant to show unconditional love to our pets just as God has unconditionally loved us. You can rest in the knowledge that God not only sees your pain, but He will bring peace and comfort to both you and your beloved animal during this time.
Revelation 5:13 – "Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: 'To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!'"
This verse beautifully illustrates that all of God’s creation is a part of His eternal plan. Every creature, whether great or small, is seen and valued by Him. Our pets are a part of that divine design, and they will be cherished by God for all eternity.
Isaiah 11:6-9 – "The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea."
One of my favorite passages of Scripture, this vision from Isaiah paints a picture of peace and harmony in God's kingdom. It speaks not just to the peace among humans, but to the peace among all of God’s creation. In this future, even the fiercest of creatures will live in harmony, and there will be no more fear, harm, or violence. I believe this assures that our pets, who bring us so much joy on earth, will be with us in heaven, experiencing the same peace and restoration. It’s a beautiful promise that all of creation will be made whole again, united under God's reign, where we will be with our beloved companions forever.
Revelation 21:4 – "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
This is the ultimate promise—there will be no more pain or sorrow in God's kingdom. The hurt you’re feeling now, will one day be no more. Take comfort in the assurance that God will wipe away every tear, and He will make all things new. His kingdom will be a place of eternal peace, where the struggles of this world no longer have a place.
As you walk through this difficult season, take comfort in knowing that you are not alone. God is right beside you, and He sees the deep love and care you've shown your pet. The joy and love your pet has brought into your life will always remain in your heart, and the love you've given them is something God delights in. Rest in the assurance that one day, in God’s perfect kingdom, all will be restored, and your beloved pet will be comforted and at peace. Your pet is forever grateful for the love you've shown, and God values that love deeply. His love never fails, and He promises to bring healing, restoration, and peace—both to you and to your precious companion.
I hope you find comfort in knowing that the love you gave was worth it, that it mattered, and that in God’s kingdom, all things will be made whole again.
